Criticisms Feminist anthropology has been criticized for a number of issues since its emergence in the 1970s. Gender ideology: a complex set of beliefs about gender and gendered capacities, propensities, preferences, identities and socially expected behaviors and interactions that apply to males, females, and other gender categories. Gender ideology can differ among cultures and is acquired through enculturation. What is currently called "gender" is nothing but a mental construct designed to undermine that propagation, nurture, and order. It is not a way of talking about sex, or about the complications of sex that occasionally occur in nature, or about the social roles sometimes problematically associated with sexual complementarity, but rather an absurd denial of sex and sexual complementarity. When anthropology talks about human sex, gender, and sexuality, we insist that we must take account of what humans say, think, and believe about their activities. When we do take this into account, it becomes obvious that indeed “gender is a social construction.” In its introduction, they forthrightly identify gender ideology as "a position on anthropology (who a human being is) that is in conflict with the Christian one."
